Want to your boss to sit up and recognise your sheer awesomeness? If you’re still sitting at your desk hoping they’ll magically realise how great you are then it’s time to reconsider. There are subtle things you can do to ensure that they notice you without having to go full Kanye.
There are tasks in every workplace that everyone avoids like a dodgy Tupperware container at the back of the office fridge. One of the best ways to win major brownie points with your boss is to do something that desperately needs to be done but no one actually wants to do. This shows that you’re a team player and you’re proactive. When the time comes to think of valued team members guess whose name will come to mind…
Demonstrate that you’re indispensable by positioning yourself as a go-to gal. Whether it’s because you’re the only one who can troubleshoot computer problems or you have a particularly good rapport with clients, by taking ownership of an issue within your team, your boss will consider you as someone they can’t survive without.
You’d be surprised how many people don’t bother to ask their manager for feedback. It’s one of the easiest things you can do to set yourself apart from your colleagues. By making the effort to chat about your performance, you show that you’re invested in your job. Music to any boss’ ears wouldn’t you say?
If you suspect there’s a better way of doing a particular task, then now is the time to mention it. It’s always a great thing for a manager to realise they’ve got someone on their team who genuinely cares about their work. The bonus is that not only do you impress your boss, but you’re also upping your skill set by getting involved with things outside of your role.
It’s easy to just sit back in meetings but to get noticed, start speaking up. It’s nerve-racking we know, especially for people who don’t relish in drawing attention to themselves but in this instance, that’s exactly what need to do. Start by coming prepared to meetings with ideas and challenging yourself to contribute.
